Sandra

Sandra managed the Space Apps Challenge from 2020-2022 on behalf of the Earth Science Division at NASA Headquarters. She is a Costa Rican-American specialist in electrical engineering and physics and now serves as deputy director of the Astrophysics Division at NASA HQ. She worked for 25 years at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center on missions such as the mission to Mars MAVEN, and Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite GOES-R. Sandra’s profile has been highlighted by UN Women for being a positive example for women, especially youth and children. Thank you, Sandra!

Paula

Paula managed Space Apps 2019 & Space Apps COVID-19 on behalf of the Earth Science Division at NASA HQ. She has been a biological oceanographer for over 25 years and spent over 16 years as the program manager for Ocean Biology and Biogeochemistry at NASA HQ, as well as the Lead for NASA’s Carbon Cycle and Ecosystems Focus Area and the agency’s Carbon Cycle Science research lead. She served as the Earth Science Division’s Acting Deputy Director from 2019-2020. Thank you, Paula!

Alicia

Ali and Nick co-founded Space Apps for NASA on the back of a napkin in a taxi! They got approval, built out the concept, and led the project in 2012 and 2013. In addition to being a founder, Ali was community manager, then working at Valador. She has continued to advise and support the program in various ways since then, including in 2015 when she attended the first Dhaka event, and in 2022, when she coordinated the solicitation of the challenge statements via the [email protected] platform.
